Behind The Scene: Why this overaction, EC?

Election Commission seems to be doing over-action in the ongoing byelections. If not, how can one describe the cases filed indiscriminately against Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, while sparing other leaders including Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu, TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao and others.
EC directed that cases be filed against CM in as many as 10 districts in the name of poll code violation. Particularly, what was wrong in YSR addressing a press conference and making an appeal to the voters. Political parties should not make a public campaign, they have every right to make an appeal through media. Never in the past did the EC object to this media campaign. But this time, it has gone a little overboard.
What is worse, it is planning to file cases against even media, which has reported the Chief Minister's press meet. That Lok Satta convenor Jayaprakash Narayan and former Advocate general S Ramachandra Rao also condemned EC is ample evidence to this overaction by the Commission.
