The simmering discontent in the Telugu Desam over the contentious Telangana issue has finally led to a split in the party. On Monday, senior Telugu Desam leader T Devender Goud resigned from the party, as well as Assembly membership. Other senior leaders Kadiam Srihari, Ch Rajeshwara Rao and E Peddi Reddy are also following Goud.
The Telangana leaders are expected to float a separate party, probably by name "Telangana Desam," in a day or two. By all means, Goud would lead the party. The development, though not unexpected, has come as a rude jolt to TD president N Chandrababu Naidu at a time when he is dreaming of coming back to power. Now, he has to rework all his strategies. While maintaining a neutral stand on Telangana issue, Naidu would pitch in other weaker section leaders like Talasani Srinivasa Yadav and M Narsihmulu to lead their forces from the front.
However, observers say Naidu would be in deep trouble with the split in the party, in the Telangana region. One has to wait for some more time to feel the impact of the split.
