Tollywood was well known for talented directors in the olden days. The directors commanded more respect than even the heroes. The scene slowly changed and the heroes started dominating the show.
From early seventies till late nineties, it was the heroes who were all powerful, and they called the shots in every aspect including the selection of the directors.
The situation is now slowly changing once again. Now directors are back in limelight and also in full control of the film from the selection of the artists to story, songs and screenplay. Directors like Puri Jagannath, SS Rajamouli, VV Vinayak, Srinu Vytla and Boyapati Srinu are now top hot directors who command a remuneration of two crores and more.
The five are like Panchpandavulu of Tollywood and all the heroes are now keen to act only in films directed by them. These directors are action-oriented directors with mega successes and have the track record of handling big budget films.
