The Telugu Desam, which has definitely taken the advantage of Telangana issue in the recent byelections by saying that it was not against separate Telangana State, is all set to dump the issue, if party sources are to be believed.
The five-member panel on Telangana, headed by TDPP leader K Yerran Naidu, would be meeting for the first time on June 18 to study the impact of the Telangana issue on the prospects of the party in the recent byelections. While T Devender Goud's will be the lone voice, all the four in the panel are dead against Telangana.
Party sources say there is a general impression in the party that the people had supported TD in Telangana, not because of its changed stand, but because of the positive impact created by N Chandrababu Naidu during the Meekosam yatra. The people have defeated TD in Vikarabad and Dommat, despite strong Telangana sentiment raised by Devender Goud and Muthyam Reddy, while elected Talasani Srinivasa Yadav in Secunderabad and Suman Rathod in Khanapur, though they are not for Telangana demand.
"Which means to say that the people have gone by TD's performance, not by the Telangana sentiment. So, we can safely set aside the Telangana issue," is the opinion in the party. Same thing might get reflected in T-panel report, sources say.
