Buoyed by the recent bypoll results, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on Thursday pooh-poohed speculation over Telugu matinee idol Chiranjeevi's entry into politics, asserting that Congress would repeat its performance in the coming polls.
Congress has won in so many rounds of polls such as municipal, panchayat raj, cooperative and the recent bypolls and "let anyone come, we will challenge. There will be some challenge," he told reporters when asked about the Telugu star's entry into politics.
"The final round is going to come. I am quite sure we will repeat our performance... We will hold the cup," he said.
On the possibility of early polls, he said elections were due in April. "If they are going to conduct Parliamentary polls in February, we may also go for it. But if they happen in November, we may not opt for it".
Reddy, who is here to meet several Union Ministers on the state projects, greeted Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on his birthday today.
"He is our future leader. Why doubt about it," he said in reply to a question.
During his meeting with Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni, Reddy urged the Centre to grant classical language status to Telugu and a Central grant for the Cuddapah tourist circle.
The Chief Minister quoted Soni as saying that a committee of experts was examining the issue of granting classical language status to Telugu and Kannada.
